A Better Way to Manage New Text Filed

Tips & Tricks
Lobbytools Staff

We love asking our subscribers how they use our service – because we always find ways to make it even better.

For example, we discovered that the hardworking legislative assistants out there have designed detailed spreadsheets to keep track of bills awaiting new text from bill drafting.

When a bill is passed as a Committee Substitute – and so many do – the bill heads back to bill drafting to combine the original text with any amendments passed by the committee.

On that day, LobbyTools dutifully reports something like this:
Favorable with CS by Health & Family Services Policy Council; 14 Yeas, 1 Nay

Then, you wait - sometimes not long, sometimes days for that new version of the bill to forward to your clients, members or bosses.

Now, we know you all have way too much to do to keep track of all these bills waiting to be released.  So, we did two things to make this task easy.

First, when a new bill text is released, LobbyTools now adds an action to the bill that looks something like this: HOUSE Committee Substitute Text (C1) Filed.  This means you will now be alerted via the daily Bill Action email alert when a new text is available.

Second, we created a new report feature called Text Filed.  It’s located in the Tracking Tab, under the Reports heading.  This page will display any new text filed today.  Better yet, click on the “Only My Bills” to filter the list to only bills you are tracking.

Voila!  All the bill text you’ve been waiting for in a nice, neat package.  You can delete all those spreadsheets you’ve been using to keep track now.  :)
